How We Created a Bot to Answer Questions Before I Do
Create a bot answering questions on your behalf without any coding.
Have you ever felt bombarded with questions from people, to the point where it becomes overwhelming and distracts you from your important work? Well, that was the situation our team at Runbear faced. People were constantly asking us questions, and we couldn't expect them to search through documents before reaching out to us.
To solve this problem, we created a bot for Slack that can answer questions on our behalf. The most impressive part? People can still ask questions the same way they always have – by mentioning me or my team. They don't need to change their approach at all.
How to Create It
Here are the simple steps:
- Create a bot using OpenAI Assistants
- Connect it to Slack (or Teams) using Runbear
- Set it up to respond whenever someone mentions you in a channel
Creating the bot was surprisingly straightforward and quick, thanks to OpenAI Assistants. We just needed to write instructions and upload our knowledge files, similar to how we create GPTs.
Connecting the bot to our Slack workspace was even easier with Runbear. I simply added the OpenAI Assistant, connected it to our '#qna' channel, and set my preferences. No coding was required, and the entire process took around an hour.

How It Works
The result has been fascinating. Whenever someone asks a question in our '#qna' channel by mentioning me or my team, the bot answers before we do. Although I sometimes need to provide additional information, the bot has helped our team save a tremendous amount of time.
Remember, time is more valuable than money. You can't purchase more time, but you can use it more efficiently. By allowing a bot to handle routine questions, our team members can focus on the important work that truly matters, enabling us to achieve more.
