The BAA needs to cover the answer, not just the documents
For an AI knowledge assistant, there are two data paths to review. First, the product connects to a repository, copies or retrieves documents, and prepares them for search. Then an employee asks a question, and the system sends that question and relevant passages to a model to produce an answer.
Both paths may handle protected health information (PHI). A security review that checks the database but ignores model inference misses part of the workload. A Business Associate Agreement (BAA) and the required downstream arrangements need to account for the actual services handling that information. Ask where the knowledge index, model request, response, and logs go. A SOC 2 report helps evaluate controls; it does not answer which AI services the BAA covers. Slack's own Enterprise and BAA requirements also apply separately. A third-party assistant does not inherit Slack's agreement simply because its answer appears in a Slack thread.

Glean approaches the problem as enterprise-wide knowledge discovery. Its Slack experience brings context from connected systems into the conversation, which is useful when answers cross departmental boundaries and the organization wants a common search platform.
Its security documentation emphasizes source-system permissions on reads and writes. Glean Protect adds sensitive-content controls and oversharing detection. Those controls address an important problem: a document can be technically accessible but still inappropriate for a broad audience.
Glean publishes HIPAA information and a BAA. For a team already adopting Glean across the business, bringing that search into Slack may be a natural extension. For a single team's knowledge assistant, compare the required rollout and administration with that narrower need rather than assuming every search deployment has the same scope.
Credal AI
Credal's deployment options are a concrete difference. Its security page describes multi-tenant cloud, a managed single-tenant instance, deployment inside the customer's cloud, and air-gapped on-premises installation. It also supports customer-provided model keys and inference options through services such as Bedrock and Azure OpenAI.
That makes Credal relevant when the location and ownership of the processing environment are part of the buying requirement. Running in a customer's cloud does not remove the need to review the model and service agreements, but it gives the organization more deployment choices than a single hosted path.
Credal states that it mirrors source permissions for end users and publishes HIPAA support. Its Slack agent documentation covers deploying agents to channels and routing messages between them. Evaluate those controls together with the contract for the chosen deployment, not as a generic promise that every configuration handles PHI identically.
Aisera
Aisera connects knowledge answers with employee-service automation. Its integrations include enterprise knowledge and service systems, and its Slack guide describes making an Aisera application available in Slack. It is worth considering when finding an answer and starting a service request belong to the same project.
The TRAPS security documentation goes into moderation, role-based controls, and agent behavior. Use that material to examine the actual workflow. Public healthcare positioning does not establish which services are covered by the BAA for your Slack deployment; ask Aisera for the current agreement and processing details.
Moveworks
Moveworks distinguishes its dedicated enterprise search application from conversational search inside its AI Assistant. Its search documentation describes indexed and live sources, with the assistant delivering answers through interfaces including Slack.
Vetted Content is especially relevant to policy questions. When several similar documents exist, employees need to know which answer comes from an approved source. Look at how that designation appears in Slack and how it is maintained as policies change.
For buyers considering search alongside broader employee assistance, that is a useful combination to evaluate. Review the current security evidence and request the applicable BAA directly. Older contract language or a certification list is not a reliable substitute for the agreement governing a new deployment.

The configuration mistake a BAA will not fix
An operations lead wants an assistant to answer onboarding questions. The source folder contains the staff checklist, but it also contains files employees should not all see. Connecting the entire folder turns a useful search project into an access problem.
The BAA governs how the vendor handles covered information. It does not decide whether every document belongs in the assistant's knowledge source. Define the source set, check who may retrieve it, and consider who will see the answer if it is posted to a shared channel.
For an onboarding question, the useful result is simple: gather the training instructions, approval policy, and request form from their respective systems. Here is how that exchange can look in Slack.

The follow-up matters as much as the first answer. The agent should use the approval rule it found, not invent an exception because the employee asks for one. The source links let the employee inspect the underlying instruction without making an operations lead reconstruct it again.
During review, also trace where that question and answer are logged. PHI in a query can make its logs sensitive even if the connected policy documents contain no patient information. Ask about storage, access, and retention for logs alongside the knowledge index and model request.
Choose the deployment you can explain
If the immediate need is a shared Slack agent over a selected body of knowledge, start with Runbear. If the project is enterprise-wide discovery, examine Glean. If processing must run in a particular tenant or customer-controlled environment, Credal's deployment options deserve a close look. Aisera and Moveworks are relevant when knowledge search is being purchased as part of a wider employee-service program.
